ROASTED LOCALLY IN CHICAGO
Kribi Coffee
We exist to make never-bitter coffee more accessible, more human, and more meaningful with every roast.
Rooted in Heritage
Born on his family’s coffee farm in Mabonji, Cameroon, Jacques Shalo grew up in the rhythm of the harvest. Alongside his son and co-founder, Jeremiah Shalo, he set out to build something bigger than a brand: a modern, community-driven way to share the heart of Cameroon.
They created Kribi Coffee to bridge their roots with the modern coffee house, and to reimagine how coffee is made from the ground up.
The Science of Smooth
To honor coffee from the farm the way it deserves, we chose a different approach to roasting. Traditional roasting relies on hot drums and gas flames, which can push coffee toward burnt or bitter notes.
Our air-roasting process uses a controlled stream of hot air to roast beans evenly while lifting away chaff (the thin outer husk around each coffee bean) before it can burn. The result is a cup that tastes clean, naturally sweet, and consistently smooth.
Sourcing with Purpose
Our roasting process leaves nowhere for poor quality to hide, so we start where quality begins, at the source. Through our Cameroon Coffee Collective™, we work directly with smallholder farmers to support fairer pay, long-term stability, and responsible growing practices.
We complement our flagship coffees with select beans from trusted global partners who share the same standards for quality, integrity, and farmer first mentality. The result is a lineup built on exceptional flavor and a supply chain that treats farmers with the respect they deserve.
